Cobblemon 1.8.0, named the Make Your Move Update, arrived on September 6, 2026 for Minecraft 1.21.1. It is the largest content drop since the riding-focused 1.7 series, and it changes how you explore, train and battle. A 1.8.1 patch followed a week later with fixes.

Alpha Pokémon

Alpha Pokémon are tougher, rarer versions of regular spawns. They stand out in the world and make excellent goals for experienced players. The update also refreshed stat change particles, including dedicated effects when an Alpha gets a boost, so you can read a battle at a glance.

Pokémon sizes

Pokémon now vary in size. Two of the same species can look noticeably different, which gives collectors a new reason to fill their PC boxes and makes pasture areas feel more natural.

TMs arrive

Technical Machines let you teach moves outside of level-up learnsets. This is a big shift for team building, because a Pokémon's moveset now depends on your choices as well as its level. Expect TMs to become one of the most traded items on servers.

Habitats

Habitats tie spawns more closely to specific environments. Finding a particular Pokémon becomes a question of where and when you look, not just luck. Pair this with a map mod and you can plan proper expeditions.

World and performance changes

  • Ruins and fossil structures were reworked so they blend into terrain more naturally.
  • Pasture Blocks perform better in both single-player and on servers.
  • New alternate PC wallpapers based on the PC's original pre-release design.

What 1.8.1 fixed

The 1.8.1 patch focused on polish. It corrected several spawn conditions tied to light levels, fixed a typo that stopped Dusk-form Rockruff from spawning, repaired a few animations, and stopped some flying Pokémon from filling logs with missing sound errors.

Should you update?

Yes, but back up your world first. Copy your saves folder somewhere safe, then update Cobblemon and its library mods together. If you play on a server, wait until the server owner updates, because clients and servers must run the same version.
